Cafe Marx Restaurant

30 kinds of breakfast served till 5.00 pm, seasonal venison dishes, fresh vegetables, and homemade jam. All this in a cozy little café in Spreewaldplatz, the thick of Kreuzberg.

The first impression that you get when you go into Café Marx is that you are right at home. The plain style, thanks to the red and green walls, the wooden tables, and the huge selection of newspapers and magazines, makes you feel really comfortable.

Among the patrons are many regulars and young people.

This place is a family business, and in step with their philosophy, they try to keep the prices down and serve, however, high quality food. Here you can choose between 30 different kinds of Frühstück (breakfast), the cheapest one, the Marx Frühstück, costing just € 3.50.

But if you feel like having a proper lunch, then go for Bratwurst mit Kartoffelsalat (sausages with potato salad), which is perfect if you want a bite of a traditional German dish, or the famous Wiener Schnitzel. Every now and then, Nina’s –the owner- father provides game that he hunts himself.

Vegetarian dishes are also available, like quiche, bagels and Käsespätzle, just to name a few, and by the way, there’s no problem if you don’t speak German because they also have the menu in English! Almost everything that you can eat or drink in Café Marx are local products, like the fresh fruit and vegetables. The marmalades and pesto are homemade, and the cakes come from Hudson’s Cakes, also here in Kreuzberg.

This is not only a nice place to eat well without spending a fortune, at night Café Marx turns into a bar, and in summer, it is really nice to have drink and a chat while seating outside in one of Kreuzberg's best corners.
