At the end of 2007 after more then 20 years of success, the Storch became with the new owner Oliver Schupp the current Renger-Patzsch Gasthaus, although most of the people are still call it by this name. Schupp, who's already opened the Kreuzberg's institution and managed since 1999 also the was an old fan of the Storch: he decided so to preserve this wonderful establishment. We can surely say that he did it… very well!
The nice and casual environment, celebrates with beautiful black and white pictures the pioneer of German landscape photographer Albert Renger-Patzsch, who was a friend of Oliver's grandfather. Here you will find a place that is preserving a true german feeling.
Food is excellent especially the Elsässer Flammkuchen also known as tarte flambee: an alsatian dish composed originally of a thin bread dough covered with fromage blanc, thinly sliced raw onions and bacon. If you are vegetarian then go for the tarte flambèe à la maison with pears, walnuts leek and blue cheese.
The famous chef Hannes Behrmann, who already worked in the Storch, changes the menu every day and offers starter, soups and main dishes always in a very “german nouvelle cousine” style.
In sommer treat yourself with a glass of wine in the pleasant terrace outside, that is for this reason always very full.
Forewarned is forearmed: who comes here once, will definitely come again!
